As most of you know, I am never a fan of internet hype! I wrote this article to determine whether the claims made by fans of Feliway were true or not. This product is a facial pheromone which is meant to make cats feel good and to reduce urinary issues and all sorts of behavioral issues.
You can read my full article, including research articles that I found here:

I have been looking at pheromone products in pet stores because my cats always seem to be coming home from the vet sick (after going to the vet healthy!) I have thought that maybe this is a stress reaction and that pheromones might help. The pheromone products (sprays) I have seen, so far, contain essential oils. Even though essential oils are natural, they can be very dangerous for cats. Does Feliway contain essential oils? By now, I am beginning to think that the cats’ illness (vomiting, diarrhea) after vet visits may be due to the cleaning products in use there. I recently cleaned my house, being very careful not to use strong cleaning products on any surface that the cats touch, and leaving windows open, but all of the cats still vomited! The chemicals travel through the air, I suppose. A lesson for me! Can animal hospitals use pet-safe cleaning and disinfecting materials, or do they have to use the “big guns” because they deal with so many sick animals?
Excellent points! So far, as far as we know there are no negative effects to using Feliway. However, I’m always a little leary about how many chemicals we have in our lives. The problem is, that as you suggested, we need to use strong disinfectants when it comes to animals.
I’m currently reading Jiliian Michael’s book called Master Your Metabolism. It’s scary what the chemicals in our world can be doing to us!
