Welcome to another installment of Guess the Diagnosis! Here is case #3:
This is Barley, a female 10 year old Bernese Mountain Dog:

Barley’s owner brought her to see Dr. Marie because she has been panting a lot lately, especially after exercise. At times her bark seems to be a little hoarse as well.
There will be more information posted in the days to come. (If you would like to be notified by email when a post is made, click here.)
If you think you know the answer, leave a comment. Or, if you would like to ask more information about the case, leave a comment with your question. The first correct guess wins a free question on www.askavetquestion.com!!!
Have fun!
Has she developed a heart murmur or irregular heart beat?
Is it Laryngeal paralysis?
laryngeal paralysis
Apparently this one was too easy for you guys! Two people have guessed the correct diagnosis already. I’m withholding the comments from public view for now so that others can still play the game. I’ll post the correct answer (and notify the winner) in a few days.
Dr. Marie
I imagine it will be a heart problem as this breed are prone to them.
Do we have the answer to this diagnosis yet?
I have a 8 year old American Pit bull that has a tennis ball hanging from her stomach, including oone nipple. It is soft but hurts if you squeeze it, otherwise seems not to bother her. Unfortunately, the recession hit us hard, where as a puppy, I would rush to the vet, now I have no choice… I have no money. She is a family dog and my baby. She also has another growth on her neck, that is much smaller and is hard, but it started out small on her stomach. It has been 3 years of this growth scare. Luckily, my husband recently found work, as well as myself. What does it sound like, I hope not cancer.
Hi Heather…questions about your pet need to go through the website.
Oh my goodness….I have just revived my blog and realized that I never provided the answer to this question. Yes, this dog had LARYNGEAL PARALYSIS. Jen, I’ve sent you an email about how to activate your free question.
Dr. Marie.
