Doggie Wishbone Recall

veterinary news

There has been another recall because of concerns of Salmonella.  This time, Merrick Pet Care is recalling a single lot of Doggie Wishbones because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

Doggie Wishbone recallThe Salmonella issue was found when the FDA did some random sampling of Merrick’s product.  To me, this is a frightening statement!  Who knows what other contaminated foods are out there!

In my practice I have been seeing a lot more dogs than usual with serious cases of vomiting and diarrhea.  So far I haven’t figured out if there is a common culprit, but I’m wondering if some of these could be due to Salmonella poisoning.

If you have a Doggie Wishbone at home, here is the lot number that you need to be concerned about:

  • ITEM # 29050, UPC # 2280829050, Lot 11031 Best By 30 Jan 2013
Symptoms of Salmonella poisoning include vomiting, diarrhea and extreme lethargy.  If you are concerned about your dog, then please contact your veterinarian.
