Have you been affected?

So far, I have not heard reports of dogs getting sick after eating Wellness food.  I would love for you to leave a comment if this is the food that you feed.  Please let us know whether or not your dog has had signs of illness and also, where you purchased your food.  Commenting will help others who are looking for information.  Also, please spread this on Facebook so we can help prevent other animals from getting sick.  Thank you!

We have a 4 1/2 mo. Old Great Dane puppy who has been eating Wellness Large puppy. He had some pretty bad diarrhea; very watery and we couldn’t figure out what was wrong. He has a huge appetite and is very food motivated so I’m not sure he would ever not eat. Lat night I saw a posting about the Wellness puppy and checked our bag and sure enough we have one that is being recalled. He still has diarrhea off and on but no other symptoms, so I will definitely be calling my vet tomorrow.

      Audrey-
I feed my 2 young golden retrievers this food. Except I don’t keep the bag because I always dump in a large food bin.

Do you happen to remember when you bought your bag?- It doesn’t have to be exact. I bought my bag of food on April 23. Just wanted to see if it might match around yours since I didn’t keep the bag.

My dogs have been having diarrhea for the past week in a half. They just went to the vet yesterday. They are on a bland diet and antibiotics.

Had our 6 1/2 month old goldendoodle at the vet all day. She has had diarrhea and was vomiting last night. Vet said it could be from the food. Wellness need to get my vet bill….

I have a 8lb five year old and he is on wellness sensitive stomach lamb and rice dry and wet food and he also has had diareah and vomiting on and off and we weren’t sure why either….until the recall….he only gets the dry food on and off for his teeth, so assuming this is why the diareah is on and off

maria i am scared….i lost 7 of my cats in a years time with the huge recall many years ago and they all ended up dying of kidney failure, just like the recall stated could happen…..I am very scared, my dog is a registered service dog to me and i can’t be with out him….please help

  5. linda saenz says:

should i make my own bison/rice/peas and carrots for him?? he is allergic to everything…. chicken, fish, beef, duck, turkey, egg, dairy, wheat…etc ????

My dog eats Wellness Simple Solutions Duck and Rice and has been having loose stools since we got her a new bag last week. She is gassy and acting a bit “out of it” I mentioned this to my sister-in-law and she told me about a pet food recall. I know this particular kind has not been recalled, but I think something is wrong. We are going to the vet first thing tomorrow. Anyone else experiencing this?

  7. Jacklyn Jackson says:

My 3 year old GSD developed severe diarrhea with no other discernible cause. he has been eating Wellness sadult Super 5 Mix, whitefish and sweet potato. very costly to me with a big Dr bill and a sad dog…..on bland yogurt, then yogurt, rice and boiled chix breast along with Tylan powder for 4 days gradually transitioning in a new food, Pure Vita. he is doing well now.

  8. Heidi says:

My dogs got sick from Nature’s Balance dog food, they had a huge recall due to salmonella… my dogs were very sick and I had to take them to the vet and they were put on 3 different medications. I took them off dog food completely and just fed them rice and chicken until they got better. Once they got better, I went to the pet store to get a different brand, and I decided on Wellness Lamb & Rice… Shortly after starting on that food they were sick again! I thought there’s no way this dog food is bad too.. but they’re halfway through the big bag now, and they haven’t gotten any better, so I decided to google it, and now I’m reading this… I am pissed right now! 2 bags of dog food at $60 and they both made my dogs sick!

  9. Jessica says:

Recently bought a bag of the wellness super5mix whitefish & sweet potato dog food. I didn’t think the recall affected california stores and if it had thought the food would be off the shelves. Since getting the new food my dog has had liquid diarrhea and off and on vomiting. I also don’t keep the bags but put the food in a plastic container so don’t have the lot number or expiration date. It was purchased within the last month in a northern california store though.

  10. Jane says:

Wow thanks everyone for posting about your experiences with Wellness! I have been a huge fan of their dog food because I truted their quality and manufacturing practices. I called them yesterday to find out what was going on with their dog food! The rep was very nice and told me that they had contracted with Diamond Dog food to manufacture some of their pet food formulations but have since severed all ties with Diamond Dog food manufacturing plants because of what has happened. She told me that Wellness will be manufacturing all of their own pet food out of their own Indiana plant (which they are expanding in order to accomodate the increased production).

I checked the dates on my Wellness Fish and Sweet Potato bag and it wasn’t in the recall. Thank goodness!

What a mess! I feel so bad for those of you who have had your dogs get sick from eating the bad dog food. A friend of mine came close to losing her puppy last week from salmonella poisoning from Diamond Dog Food. These companies should have to pay out for what they’ve put customers through!

    Hi.
I’m so sorry to hear these horrible stories. My heart goes out to all of you. My 5 year old lab was diagnosed with colonitis. Could the cause be due to Wellness Complete Health Super5 Whitefish & Sweet Potato? It is not for puppies, but does fall under the expiration dates. I’m finding it to be a little difficult to get answers, but finding several others are being affected by the recall. I’m blessed my dog was able to get treatment, however I would like to prevent others from any possible preventable harm. As well as gain knowledge about the nutrition I’m providing for my dog.
    Thanks!

Not sure that our situation is related, but it is awfully similar. We have been feeding our 3yr old 18 lb schnoodle Wellness Rice & Duck for only about 6-8 weeks and 4 or 5 weeks ago she started with severe diarrhea, vomiting and watery stool. After several vet visits, $3500 in bills for xrays, endoscopy, ultasound and biopsies our dog this afteroon had a 5 minute seizure for the first time in her life. She is now on medication and we are going to change her food tomorrow. I wish I knew about this recall sooner. With today’s bills we are over $4,000. If it ends up being the Wellness food, I may pursue them for our costs.

    1. Darlene says:

Sorry to hear of your dog’s problems. In April 2011 our 2-yr old Wheaten Terrier was having running fits where she would crash into walls and try to run away from everyone because she was so utterly terrified. These episodes lasted about 5 minutes and then she would just sit and didn’t want any interaction with anyone. These episodes started about 10 days after feeding her Wellness Duck and Rice. I contacted the company and they told me they had never heard of anything like that and that it could not possibly be from their dog food. After taking her off Wellness Duck & Rice, the episodes stopped almost immediately. Ever since then I have not given our dog any kind of kibble. Our dog has food allergies and I only feed her raw frozen and she has never had any such episode again.

My 7 month Australian shepherd has been on this food sk ce we got her. Shes very food motivated and always inhaled her food but recently for about 3 weeks now she would eat. Shed just look at me and would need encouragement. The most disturbing thing would be giving her the kibble individually for a treat or something. She would just left it fall from her mouth and not even chew it. Ever sj ce this shes been having g more accidents diarriah bad smelling tarts and almost vomiting after eating. She sods t move around as much she just lies down and does t want to play unless we initiate it. Also shes just sad overall and its heartbreaking. Iv been meaning to change her food because it seems to me she also has allergies to this food so now I’m going to do it. Only prob is k di t have money for another bag a food to last a month so km prov going to have to give her half this and half rice or something else.
Good luck to everyone and their dogs
