Troubles for Diamond Pet FoodChicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul Recall

This is the second recall this month involving food made by Diamond Pet Food.  I recently wrote about a recall on Diamond Naturals Lamb and Rice food which was also about possible Salmonella contamination.

In another post, I asked readers to share their experiences with Kirkland Dog Food which is also made by Diamond.  You can read in that post a list of several pet food brands that are manufactured at the Diamond plant.

Is there a problem?

At this point, no dogs have been reportedly sickened by eating Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul food.  However, I would really encourage readers to leave a comment if you feel that your dog has become ill by eating this dog food.  And please, share this article to spread the word.  The more people who comment, the more likely we are to see if there is a problem.

  1. Carolyn says:

My dog was just seen at the vet’s today for having diarrhea and vomiting. Although we can’t link it for sure I always purchase Chicken Soup Dog Food. Usually I get the Senior but that day they were out of it so I purchased either the Adult or Adult Light. I don’t have the bag anymore and can’t remember. I am going to switch dog food brands because of this.

  2. Carol Middlebrooks-Wilber says:

My Lab Shepard mix (4yrs old) is currently awaiting results for a salmonella test (along with other possible bacterium). She and my Terrier mix (1 1/2 yrs old) eat Chicken Soup for the Pet Lovers Soul Adult formula. Although this is not included in the recall, the Lab has had diarrhea since May 7, bought the bag of food April 25. The terrier mix has very lose stool today although she may be suffering from a quick switch of food yesterday (small container of Ceasar I had on hand as treat) as I cannot take a chance while awaiting test results. I should have the results in about 5 days and will post IF there is any indication this is a salmonella infection. Currently Lab is eating boiled chicken and rice only. Terrier will be given new food (Nutro Natural Choice mixed with chicken and rice).

Correction: Lab has had diarrhea since April 30. We have a secure yard so I don’t think she got into anything she shouldn’t eat.

  3. Becky Estabrooks says:

My dog had a bout of diarrhea back in mid/late February and lasted over 2 weeks. I’d figured it was a virus of some sort but now I’m wondering if it wasn’t his food; I feed him Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul Senior formula. I just found out about the recall so I’ve bought 2 bags since then and he’s had no issues for almost 2 months now. He actually had accidents in the house which he’s NEVER done…poor thing.
