If you are looking for veterinary advice I highly recommend asking your question on JustAnswer.com.
Q: Why is Dr. Marie no longer answering questions?
A: I created Ask A Vet Question in 2008. My goal was to be able to provide good, accurate veterinary advice online. I wanted my clients to have a good resource of information from a practicing veterinarian rather than crowd sourced internet advice which can sometimes be scary! I never dreamed that the site would become as popular as it did. When I launched I had about 30 people a day visit the site. I now have over 8000 questions in my database and today, the site gets tens of thousands of visitors each day. In 2012, a period of bed rest during pregnancy, combined with some back problems prompted me to consider starting an online business from my home rather than returning to work as a veterinarian. I thought I would end up doing online marketing for veterinarians. I had no idea that I would become an expert on Google Penalties. Today, I spend most of my time diagnosing website issues rather than animal illnesses. I do miss my veterinary career, but I absolutely love what I do. I get to consult with some fantastic businesses and I also get to travel the world and speak at SEO conferences. For a while, I did my SEO work AND answered questions on this website. But, I find that I do not have time to keep up with the questions. Also, as I am no longer an active practicing veterinarian, I may not be up to date with the latest treatments.
Q: Can I trust Just Answer?
A: I worked for Just Answer for a period of about a year, answering veterinary questions before starting my own veterinary advice website. JA has an incredible lineup of practicing veterinarians. They verify credentials to ensure that only licensed vets are able to answer questions. There is a rating system in place that encourages the vets to leave good and thorough answers. While I can't vouch personally for every single vet on JA, I can tell you that I trust their advice. As always, however, a discussion with an online veterinarian cannot take the place of an in-person veterinary visit.
Q: How does Just Answer Work?
A: You type in your question. And, if you want, you can choose which veterinarian you would like to answer it for you. You then decide how much you want to pay for an answer. Higher paying questions tend to be answered more quickly. Fees vary from $9 to $45 depending on the urgency of your question. You only pay if you are satisfied with your answer.
Q: Can I contact Dr. Marie?
As much as I would love to answer emails personally, I get far too many and it is not possible for me to answer questions about your pet online. If you are interested in hiring me for a speaking engagement or interviewing me, you can reach me here.

See all questions...Dr. Marie is a veterinarian who practices in a busy animal hospital in Ottawa, Ontario. She created Ask A Vet Question as a resource for good, accurate veterinary advice online. Dr. Marie treats dogs, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, and rats. She has been a vet since 1999.
Is an online vet visit just as good as a trip to your veterinarian? No! But, many times, asking an online veterinarian a question can help save you money. While Dr. Marie can't officially diagnose your pet or prescribe medications, she can often advise you on whether a vet visit is necessary. You can also ask Dr. Marie for a second opinion on your pet's condition.
