The recall affects foods distributed in the following states:Diamond Puppy Food

  • Alabama
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Kentucky
  • Maryland
  • Michigan
  • North Carolina
  • Ohio
  • Pennsylvania
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • Virginia

But, the FDA reports that the foods may have been distributed to other states.

Symptoms to look for:

Salmonella can cause vomiting, diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain and lethargy in dogs.  The other concern is that the Salmonella can be transmitted to humans as well either from handling the food or from cleaning fecal matter produced by the dog.

What is going on?

I have now reported on several foods that have been recalled, all of which are made in the Diamond Factories.  For more information, read these posts:

Diamond Naturals Lamb and Rice Recall

Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Recall

Problems with Kirkland Dog Food – (There has been no official recall, but judging by the hundreds of comments on this post, there is something serious going on.)

Diamond Pet Food manufactures the following foods:

  • Kirkland Dog Food (sold at Costco)
  • Taste of the Wild
  • Canidae
  • Solid Gold Health Products for Pets
  • Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Pet Foods
  • Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul
  • 4Health
  • NutraGold

There has been no official recall other than on the Diamond Brand and Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul, but given that ingredients may be purchased from the same source, a recall for the other brands is possible.

Have you been affected?

Does your dog eat Diamond Brand food?  Please, please, please leave a comment below and share this article on Facebook.  Please let me know what brand of Diamond food your dog eats and where you purchased the food.  Also, let me know what symptoms, if any, your dog has had.  The more people who share, the more patterns we can see.  Hopefully we can prevent dogs from getting sick!

No more dog food for my pet I will now be making home made food. I am sick off work for 2 days from touching his food. Feeling a bit better today. Bought the dog food at a pet value in Sudbury Ontario Canada

My 10 year old lab mix had to be put down April 18th. She had hip dysplasia and laryngeal paralysis but was doing well. All of a sudden she became severely ill, vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite. She was treated for a week with no improvement.

Coincidence? We started feeding her Solid Gold Holistique Blend in January 2012.

have 2 dogs, both of them vomiting, diarrhea and loss of appetite. My little dog is hot to the touch. Usually I have to keep the dogs apart because they eat out of each others bowls and now neither one is finishing a meal. I decided to check to see if others were having the same issue and it brought me here. bought Kirland Natures Domain production code NDS0610CINL item #470974 and purchased at Costco in Yorba Linda CA 7/8/12
